Here are the latest developments:The Trump administration announced that the VA has opened a criminal investigation into allegations of misconduct at the Phoenix VA health care facility.
The investigation is separate from the one being conducted by the Office of Inspector General, which is conducting its own investigation into VA management.
The VA said it was conducting a criminal probe of VA Secretary David Shulkin and four other executives for allegations of retaliation and retaliation against whistleblowers.
The VA has not identified the individual who was fired but said in a statement that the investigation was ongoing.
The Justice Department has also opened a civil rights investigation into whether the VA retaliated against a whistleblower who filed a complaint against Shulkins in February.
Shulkins has denied any wrongdoing, saying he is cooperating with the investigation.
