Which players were on the latest USMNT roster?
Posted November 07, 2018 10:25:31The USMTS is back and ready to roll, as the national team heads to the United Kingdom for a friendly against Portugal on Friday, October 30.
The squad is set to be officially announced on Saturday, November 1, and is set for a two-week period of preparation.
It features a few familiar faces, and it looks like the USMTA has brought back several veterans who were on that roster for one game in a friendly in 2017.
Goalkeeper Brad Stuver, center back Kyle Beckerman, defender Sam Adekugbe, and forward Josh Yaro all return from the 2017 friendly in which the US lost 1-0 to Portugal.
The US has not lost to Portugal since May 11, 2020.
This marks the first time the team has played at home since that friendly.
“We’re all excited,” USMTF coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a press conference Friday.
“We’ve been trying to build this program over the last two years and it’s very important to me that the team that we have at the moment is one that is focused on building something.”
The US, who are currently ranked fifth in the world, are set to take on Portugal at the Stade de France on Friday night at 4:00 p.m.
ET.
The match is set up to feature some familiar faces from the past two games, and players who have had significant international experience are expected to be in attendance.
The team’s first training camp is set down at Stade Département Saint-Germain, located in the heart of Paris, France.
This is the same venue where the US played two friendly matches with Portugal in 2019, a friendly at which the team lost 1:0.
The match against Portugal is part of a training camp for the team which includes a scrimmage against the New Zealand national team.
The team will train again at the same time for the next four days.
“We’ve got to get a little bit better,” midfielder John Brooks said.
“There are a lot of things to work on.
There’s a lot to do, but it’s going to be a good experience.”
Klinsmann said that he expects the team to play a full 90 minutes, and that the US will be looking to keep up with Portugal’s intensity and attacking style.
“They’ve been playing well, but they’ve got a lot more to play for,” he said.
The US is one of the teams set to train in the UK ahead of the friendly.
This means that USMTC players will be out on the pitch on Friday.
“It’s going be a really good opportunity for us to be out there on the training field, but we have to be very careful because we’re on a break for a couple of days,” Brooks said after the game against Portugal.
“It’s a big test.
We’re ready to go and work hard.”
