On the surface, the Navy has been working overtime to fill thousands of jobs that were eliminated last year when the fiscal year ended.

But some of the Navy’s new hires are not getting their start until the spring.

And the Navy may be putting some of them through their paces before the next recruitment drive, which could begin later this year or in 2018.

The Navy’s recruitment surge has been more dramatic than the Pentagon’s because the Navy is hiring from outside the U.S. as well as from overseas.
